Anita DeFrantz is an Olympian, medal winner, IOC and USOC member, athlete advocate, mayor of the Olympic Village, past President of the LA84 Foundation and these are just some of her many titles and honors. This past summer, at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the Global Sports Foundation awarded her the prestigious Humanitarian Award for her years of service to the athletes of the world.
Anita is a leader and champion of fairness and equality in sport. Her work on the International Olympic Committee and at home here in Los Angeles attests to her commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in sport worldwide.
Ms. DeFrantz began her rowing career at Connecticut College and continued to train and compete throughout her law school studies , qualifying for the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. RowLA, with its mission of increasing college access to the young women of LA through rowing, is very meaningful to Anita. She has chosen us to share her Humanitarian Award grant, donating $50,000 to RowLA’s programming.
We are deeply honored to have Anita’s support and have involved our Board of Directors in making plans to maximize the effect of this very generous gift.
